Hi, I got a well used second hand Dewalt DW733 the other day with no ON/OFF switch. The lad a got it off told me he just used the mains plug switch to power it up or off as he had connected up the wiring behind where the switch would go. Obviously I realise this is not to clever so plan on buying an ON/OFF switch for it. The official Dewalt switch is around £35 with delivery which is practically half of what I paid for the entire machine! So seeing as I am tight, I was just wondering if anyone knows of any other suitable switches I could stick on it and where to get them?

Also, I did try starting up the machine at home to give my mate a demo yesterday & it just kept tripping the MCB in my lecy box so I'm presuming summit aint rite with the old wiring!

You could adapt a direct on line switch from Machine Mart (010220040 for example)......It'll still cost you around the £30 mark though.
I'd check out the tripping issue before venturing further!
John :)

Yeah the tripping issue was worring me more than the switch to be honest!

Anyone got any ideas as to what the most likely cause is? Bearing in mind that 2 bits of wire have been used to bypass the non existent ON/OFF switch

machinery of this type should be fitted with a 'no volt release switch'
this is to prevent machine restarting on it's own after an interruption in the power supply.
Just google 'no volt release switch'

you have a £400 machine so spending £35 to keep it in good working order is the only sensible option
you have bought it cheap because it needs attention like a derelict house or a classic car the value is in doing it properly :D

i would make sure it works before buying a switch, you may have bought a piece of junk

big-all

Yeah I need to find out if its all OK really but it instantly trips out my house when I turn it on. The lad gave me a quick demo when I picked it up and it didn't trip his lecy, I'm guessing his little old house may not have been on new MCB's though?

sounds like the motor has an armature fault, be prepared for extra cost.

have it tested electrically, by a qualified electrician?

Sounds like it could get expensive... might be getting fleabayed for spare parts at this rate me tinks!

Give the wires a good clean and removed all of the sawdust etc & re-attached everything, all seems to work great now :D

Think I'll look into buying a switch now after all!

fantastic thanks for getting back to us as you know the feedback makes it all worth it cheers :D :D
