difference between direct and indirect cylinder

i will be trying to fit a new hot water cylinder and i was wonderng how would u tell the differance between the 2 diffrent types of cylinder without stripping it out

you are very unlikely to have a direct cylinder if you have a boiler that's less than 30 years old

count the pipes that go into it

have a look in the loft and see if you have an F&E

look at the first few threads in this Plumbing Forum if you are not familiar with CH systems
 
usuallys theres a lable telling you,but if you have any three or two port valves on the heating system, then the answer is indirect.if its run off a solid fuel appliance it could be direct, then you would have to look in the loft to see if its one cws.
