Dimmer control out through blown bulb?

Hi,

One of the six 50W recessed ceiling bulbs (GU 10) has gone, but, as far as we can tell, the dimmer control went at the same time, so that we now just have on / off. Having just fitted a new bulb, the dimmer still won't work.

Is this a normal consequence of blown bulb and, if so, how do I get dimmer to start working?

Cheers,
Mike.

to quote tom jones "its not unsual" you need a new dimmer  although some have fuses but it sounds like yours hasnt

GU10 lamps are very 'spikey' when they blow.......the major lamp manufacturers have addressed this problem by placing a fuseable link in the GU10 which protects the circuit (dimmer) when a lamp blows....note the use of the word 'when'..... if you have been financially tempted by a cheap far eastern lamp, they have no such protection and can hurt your dimmer..

I've seen a cheap GU10 lamp take out a 5amp BS3036 fuse when it failed
