Dimmer switches (my turn !!)

I've just had a 3way safety dimmer plonked in me lap made by Varilight.
It says 250W max handling current per gang but if used with GU10 halogen bulbs max handling is 150W per gang (bought the downlighters masona :D ).
Surely this switch is not that intelligent ? Isn't 50W, 50W ?
P.s. masona my wasteful daytime fun of idling away hours on here has been destroyed :cry: . I phoned someone up for a job on Wednesday and the b*gg*rs took me seriously !! Started 2day (I'd forgot we get two 6 o'clocks in one day !!! :LOL: :LOL: :LOL:

Isn't halogen electricity brighter than the normal stuff? Maybe that's why theres a restriction.
