I've had no problems from this 8.5kW Dimplex shower since I bought it about two years ago. Now, occasionally, after about 20 minutes of use, the water goes cold.
The power indicator light on the front panel has gone off, but the auto reset light is also off. This should light if "an overheat temperature is sensed during operation", according to the user instructions. So, it would appear that it's not due to an overheat problem.
The only other symptom is that the casing around the power selector knob does seem to get very warm. There are two heat settings on the power selector and it seems that only when the shower is actually switched on will a solenoid move the rotary cam forward to allow the microswitches to operate.
It would appear that the solenoid, for some reason, is de-energising and allowing the rotary cam to move back and thus switch off the microswitches, but why it's doing it, I've no idea.
Has anyone come across this problem before?
