Direct Cylinder Immersion Issue

Called out to no hot water fault. 240 at immersion. Tested stat and it failed. Changed stat and heat proof flex (exsisting starting to perish). Job done, or so I thought. Customer called me back and the hot water is only warm (25oc). Any ideas? Immersion element breaking down? Thanks in advance

Was it right length stat ?
Take it you set it to about 60c ?
Was it a cheap brand stat ?

Measure resistance of the immersion heater element
should be approx 20 ohms.

Stat set to 60oc yes. 18" is the correct size too. I’m thinking the element is breaking down because I struggled to get a solid ohms reading across the elements. This would explain the 25oc at the outlets. I’m reluctant to change the complete immersion with it being older than I am and of course they are notorious for ripping the cylinder

Never bother changing just the stat, always new immersion

how do you take them out - I`ve never had any trouble - even with ones that have previously rippled cylinders
