direction indicators

The direction indicators on my Transit van do not cancel properly.Driving me mad.Keep getting flashed.
Any ideas on how to cure this problem please.

Usually the self cancelling mechanism is operated by a peg sticking out of the steering column....when this peg contacts the column switch, a spring flicks the switch position to off.
Usually its a plastic lug on the column switch itself that wears down / breaks off.
