Disabled toilets have thermostatic mixers on the pipework leading up to the tap. But is the tap unique for a disabled toilet is it any different to a standard basin mixer? If it's faulty does it need to be swapped with another disabled basin mixer tap?

You should be able to use any suitable tap.

Isn't the difference in the design of the operating handle/lever so may be able to change it if the rest of the works taps ok

Sorry I should have been clearer. The tap needs to ideally be of a Lever type for ease of use..

There's also the issue of an scalding protection.

Some mixers have a TMV built in to the mixer itself, others require a seperate TMV.

You don't need special taps to work with a blending valve. Assuming the existing poorly tap is a lever type, replacing it with another lever tap is fine. If the levers are the long hospital type you should be able to swap them onto your new standard lever taps

Yeah there's a blending valve before the tap. So any lever operating mixer valve will do?
