It's mainly backing stuff up like photos and CDs to play in the car, that sort of thing. Oh and I like to keep copies of any software that I have. Pretty general really.

For that kind of use, why not just use the built in Vista CD / DVD recording features?

I really only ever need recording software when im burning compressed films to a DVD, so that they will play in a DVD Standalone or when im burning .ISO files to disc.

For just backing up files / photos, i manage fine with the built in features.

Didn't know it had any.

Where will I find them?

Its all part of the shell,

for example right click on a folder you want to back up, goto "send to" and select your CD/DVD burner.

Or you can open my computer and drag files & folders you want to backup up to your CD / DVD burner drive letter.

Also,

I think in Vista there is a folder task button, if you go into one of your pictures folders and look along the menu at the top of it, there should be a burn button.

I'm not on a Vista PC at the min, so cant be exact.

CD Recording was also built into XP.
