Happy Christmas all!
Can someone tell me why a disc sander is so much dearer than a combined disc and belt sander?
If I had the space I would get the combined version but really only want the disc sander!

A bench disc sander is the same a disc sander on a combined disc and belt sander. I think you’ve missed the point of the question

From a manufacturering and volume sales point a combined is probably more economical to sell Vs separates.
Lots of factors effect price.
Is that what you are asking?

With respect, I don't think that you have phrased your question correctly.

With regards to your question- I have no idea why a static disc is more expensive than one with the disc and belt sander.

As Wayners says...

The combined disc/belt sanders are available everywhere, and are popular with hobbyists, for light duty work; because of this, they sell in volume and are cheap to produce.
Standalone bench disc sanders tend to be pro kit. The volume sales are less, and the parts are usually higher quality, hence a higher price.

The diy market like (or at least can be sold) the flexibility of the combined tool. Professional disc sanders come dearer. Machinemart tend to do cheaper end versions of both.
