I am going to be creating a new half landing and i will use timber bearers glued into the wall.
It will only be 800mm wide and i will hange 3 joists between them, but i will need to run the bearers 100mm extra each side in order to accomodate the hanger and have room for a bolt on each end.
So i will need to disguise these bits of timber which stick out - one corner will be hidden by the staircase.
Is it a case of just plaster boarding over them ?
I could chop out the walls and hang the 3 joists into the supporting walls, but this will be tough work and i need to get my floor height at exactly the mid point for the stairs etc. Wood battons and chemical anchors make this much easier.
Ps. Do i need a supporting bolt on the outside of the last joist, or can i just put this bolt inside the last joist. I will however still need a piece of the timber bearer to take the last section of the timber hanger where you put all the nails.
I hope this all makes sense and will explain if it doesnt
