Over the last couple of days, our ageing Bosch dishwasher had started to make a very loud buzzing noise.

It happened a moment ago (approximately 15 minutes in to the cycle). I opened the door and then closed it seconds later, and the noise stopped.

Any suggestions as to the problem?

I don't quite understand why the noise doesn't reoccur after the wash is interrupted.

I am wondering of the wax motor (actuator) that makes the detergent draw pop open is faulty. It is hard to tell though, the door refused to close years ago, so we just throw the detergent tablet into the bottom before we turn it on.

The dishwasher (Bosch SGV4313) started making the buzzing noise again on the current wash. I opened the door within 15/20 seconds, left it open for about 5 seconds and then shut it again. It was still buzzing. I opened the door again. Couldn't see anything untoward and then closed it again. The buzzing stooped.

The machine is filling up, washing and draining ok.

Perhaps I should let the buzz continue next time and see if it stops on its own.
