Dishwasher problem

Can anyone tell me why there is salt on my dishes when the cycle has completed. The machine is about 8 years old, is it time to get a new one?

I once used to get super-salty plates, and it was because we hadn't screwed the lid back on properly after refilling the salt. Might be worth checking that before a trip to Comet......

Are you sure it is salt, not a mineral deposit?

(Salt will wash off with fresh water, mineral deposits won't but will fizz off with vinegar)
