Hi people

I went up in my loft recently to do some cabling and noticed there is next to no insulation up there.
I know at the moment you are supposed to be able to get good deals on diy insultion but my local B&Q are charging £14 for space blanket stuff (buy 1 get 1 free) but the poster there reckons you need 31 rolls of the stuff to do a standard detatched house!!
So is the sort of price im going to have to pay or is there somewhere cheaper or do any of you guys know any deals going?

Any advice appreciated

The standard insulation required is typically about 300mm of fibreglass. This can present certain problems and installation difficulties, particularly at the eaves, and particularly with cables and pipework.
The alternative is a less thick layer of better installation, but the downside is a more difficult installation.

You need to find out what your options are, and decide the best method. I'm sure you could get a good deal with any supplier if you work out what you need and phone around.
Either way, unless you're a pensioner, it will be a lot of money, but it will make your house much happier.

Check the m2 per roll, as it differs per manufacturer. There was some no-itch fibre roll on offer at my B&Q this week, but I don't know the price.

You need some the thickness of the ceiling joists (75-100mm?) and the rest goes at 90 degrees to them - so dont just buy one thickness.

You can get it done for £99 - fitted! .... currently on offer - www.energycare.org.uk or check out your energy supplier or local council energy advice section - as they may have it on offer too or be able to give a grant

Cheers for the advice chaps.
Wickes are doing 2 for 1 and its a bit cheaper and free delivery so i might just get £100s worth and see how far that goes - id prefer to do it myself i want to be more DIY savvy
