Hi

I've got two narrow chimney breast recesses which have been hacked back to brickwork. The area of each recess is only 70cm x 2.4m high so I thought I'd have a go at plastering the area myself. I've done small areas of skimming in the past with multifinish plaster and its been ok.

Can anyone put up a good link of a video tutorial of how to do the base coat plastering? What product should I use - is it called hardwall or browning?

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Are these recesses part of the original chimney inside face?
Hope that description makes sense!
If they are, you will probably be better with render rather than a gypsum undercoat (hard wall etc).

Hi Yes, it is part of the original chimney. So render it is. Does render come ready mixed or do I have to buy sand and cement separate?
