DIY shed

Hi All,

After a bit of advice if I may...

I am looking for help in planning a shed I would like to plan and build in my garden.

I have become very keen on furniture making of late so would like a combined shed / workshop, idea being I don't have to carry on working on the pub bench we have in the garden as I do now!

I have a space where we currently have an existing shed (standard B&Q 2x1m) that is in a very bad state. Plan is to dismantle said shed leaving a nice space of approx 3 x 2m for me to build my new shed on.

Ideally I would like 3 x 2 m building with a false wall within that will create two spaces. A 2 x 2 m space to be used as the workshop and a 2 x 1 to be used as a shed. Both will be accessed by their own door.

The current shed is sat on my limestone slabbed patio, so in theory the new shed will also need to be.

I am pretty much after advice from start to finish guys, I have an idea of what I would like to do... But perhaps not the knowledge to pull it off without a little help.

My first question is, is the existing patio a suitable base? If so what is best to use as a floor for the shed?

Essentially what I had planned was a CLS timber stud building that will be cladded externally (not sure what with yet), the voids created by the stud work insulated with a cheap insulation and then the internal to be boarded with a ply or maybe even a plasterboard.

Does the above sound viable as a basic plan??

you will still be using the pub bench for most jobs with a 2x2m area as that limits you to around 1.8m internal room
using say a chopsaw would mean moving the saw along a bench to cut to a specific length off timber
or router table placed centraly could only work with timber around 750mm long
you can extend the cutting length by having an open end using the outside as an extension off your workshop
does this work ??

Hi There!

Yes, that absolutely would work for me given the space I have to play with.

To be honest, I will finalize the dimensions a little further down the line to ensure it suits my needs. For now, it is the actual planning / building of the thing I want to make sure I get right.
