It was time to replace the old gate. Had some left over material...

I've one question, how do you make raw steel black (no paint)?

Gun blueing?
I've used it on a small scale, on items that don't live outdoors - so I can't vouch for longevity.
But despite the dire health warnings on the tub, the end result looked good!

Looked online for a gate lock/latch/catch but not able to find what I liked. Decided to make one myself. Used 50mm x 6mm x 100cm flat steel. After some cutting, shaping, welding and sanding this is the result. A solid (not perfect) Thumb Latch & Catch.
