Hello

I'm looking to remove the window and brick work directly under a window - picture attached

It had a wooden lintle roughly 3 x 8inch.

I'm confused as the brick work for the cavety wall doesn't seem to be supported.

Any suggestions?

It had a wooden lintel? Where is it now? Anything stopping those bricks from falling like a few temporary props for instance?
Older properties used to have wooden frames built in. The outer course of brickwork would gain support from the frame itself and would be built with 'strengthened' masonry rather than a lintel. It's fairly common for their to be a lintel absent on the outer leaf.

Yes, you need a lintel to support unsupported masonry.

Sorry, I think I confused you.
I've not removed the wooden lintle and would only do if I were replacing it..

I'm was more wondering if wood is strong enough. Its been like this for 90years, so I suspect so.

Thanks for the other line. I was more worried about that outer layer of bricks.

Had my builder round today, he says it had an arch before. Hence no need for support. Yo can kind of see if with the bricks standing up.

Unsupported soldier course sounds more likely than an arch, and should be supported by a new lintel
