Hi all

!st post be gentle

I have a combi system (saunier duvall) with 6 rads all with trv's, the inbuilt time clock (anolouge with the pins you pull out) has packed in and i need to replace it for heating control.

Now do i need a timeclock, roomstat, programable roomstat or what do you recommend?

Thanks

Robert

Anyone ?

Been reading up and think i either a need a programable room stat or external time switch.

So is it better to have a stat over the trv's

Thanks

Robert

I would suggest you go for a programmable thermostat. That will replace the time clock function and add a thermostat that should improve comfort and efficiency. It will probably be easiest to install a wireless unit because you probably won’t have wiring installed for a room thermostat. A good selection can be seen here: http://www.heatingcontrolsonline.co.uk/programmable-thermostats-c-21_31.html

Probably the commonest recommendation you will see on here is for a Honeywell unit, such as the CM927, which I would also endorse. Note that wherever you place the thermostat, you should fully open the TRVs (or even remove the TRV valve heads) on the radiators that heat the area.
