I want to replace the roof on a wooden log store. I'm planning on purchasing some OSB board which I'll nail into place and then cover with felt. My question is do I need to use roof battens and if so how/where do I use them? What is their purpose?
Nah, felt on top of the OSB. Use the short felting nails with the wide heads. If space allows, make an overhang to help protect the logs from rain.
Felt will last about 7ish years then need replacing.
You may also want to think about putting a cover across the front, perhaps sack or weed control fabric. That will slow down any angled rain and keep the wood from getting too damp.
I have to do the same thing. I presume I should use OSB3, but what thickness? With overhang it's 750mm x 1800mm and has a support half way along the 1800mm width.
Thanks!
