As the title really, been fitting up the start of the reveals on my roof lantern and I've needed to pack one side out by 5mm to get it square, there will be a corner bead going over the gap obviously, but would I be best putting a small amount of expanding foam in the gap before the bead goes on so there's something behind the bead to stop the plaster just pushing through?

nope scrim the corner before fitting the bead.
the plaster will fill the gap and make it nice and strong.
