Hi,

I'm just doing up my lounge, and i've changed a few bits of wiring - taken out the 2-way switching to the ceiling light, installed a second ceiling light. Both lights are now controlled by 1-way switches. I've also taken a fused spur off the downstairs 30A ring circuit which will power an electric fire.

For all the lighting I've used 1mm T&E, and for the spur I've used 2.5mm T&E - all earthed, sheathed etc etc. All connections are conceiled in junction boxes. I'm happy that it's 100% safe, and it all works fine.

Do I need to tell anyone about it?

This does not sound like notifiable work. However even if it was, it is already too late - notification is done BEFORE the work starts.

As these are extensions to circuits, and they are not in a special location, then no, you dont.

Joint boxes *should* not be used where they will become inexcessible, however, a blind eye is often turned if the only covering is floor boards and carpets (still not correct though).

I assume the cables are supported adequately, and if plastered in the walls, they have been installed in safe zones (and if you want to comply to the 17th edition regulations, which you should be, they should also be RCD protected).

Thanks Lectrician, yes I've used plenty of cable clips to secure the cables and the whole house is RCD-protected (including lights). The spur runs from the ceiling down a stud-partition to the switched FCU, and then through some plastic conduit into the recessed area which was once a fireplace, where I've put an unswitched socket for the fire.

The junction boxes are covered by floorboards and carpet
