Hi everyone,

Complete DIY newb here... In our lounge we have an old carpet (we just moved in), below that underlay, below that boards and below that floorboards.

It's a Victorian period property so we just pulled up a corner to have a look and this is what we found... See pic.

They look very pale for original floorboards don't they? Do you think we could pull everything up and just have the floorboards with rugs on?

Or if not should we leave the boards and/or underlay to help a laminate floor fitter?

Any advice hugely appreciated!

Thanks, Jimmy[/img]

It's possible they are I've seen very pale boards before in old properties , but just as easy they could be replacements. Have a look at the fixings chances are you should see cut nails holding it down. These will have a roughly oblong shape of head. If the nails are round then it's more than likely to be a newer floor.

Thanks for your suggestion Ladylola, I will have a look at the nails now...

If they are in good nick then maybe hired a floor sander to clean it up then the usual wax/polish/stained etc

Either way from the couple we can see they look in decent nick whatever age they are so you have several options open.
