If we install velux windows do we need planning permission?

Would Velux windows have to be covered under FENSA too?

Planning permission? ask your local planning authority we cannot speak for them.

FENSA? You can install them yourself, but you will need approval from your local building control, and they want a fee.

But if they are fensa approved then you dont need to pay the fee to building controls?

The installing firm must be FENSA registered, if it is not, OR you do it yourself, you have to pay building control. The windows have to conform to building regulations requirements regardless. This is all to do with energy saving targets, meanwhile some of my customers run outdoor heated swimming pools which use far more oil than a house uses in a year, but that's not wasting energy.

FENSA only deal with replacement windows

if you have existing veluxes that need replacing then you could use fensa registered installers as opposed to your LA but if they are new you can only use your LA

anything else(. new openings for new windows, slightly enlarging exisiing openings, putting french doors in where there was a window etc) will be outside the scope of fensa and you must make application to your LA
