Dodgy door

I have a problem where the door handle to an internal door keeps falling off and I can't put it back on as there are so many holes in that area there is nothing for the screws to grip on.

Any ideas on how to fix this apart from superglue the handle to the door?

If all else fails because the door is effectively wrecked, I've used 3.5mm threaded electrical screws (Toolstation 40041) with the appropriate nuts and washers......75mm long you see, so once in place the waste is sawn off.
The handle and lock could be mounted in another position, of course!
