Booked a short getaway for us on Friday evening. Paid for on credit card.

Got a text next morning, stating that we'd be refunded, as the flights are oversold.

The exact same holiday is still on the website, and has been since we booked it.

Surely that can't be right / allowed?

It was Onthebeach, in case that helps anyone.

What may be happening is that the Operator / Carrier is still advertising the holiday, waiting to see if there are any last second cancellations, if so the last person to book will get on the flight.

In your case a full plane or hotel is, as far as the carrier is concerned, a happy place to be in, what the carrier / hotel do not want is a lack of bums on Seats, they make no money from that, they are probably hedging their bets along the lines as above??

They may just be slack at updating their website.
Disappointing for you though :(

What I intensely dislike about this sort of situation is when they take your money instantly but can't organise a refund for up to 10 days.

What I intensely dislike is their selling something that doesn't exist. Especially bad that they're still selling it.
Plus, once you've bought one, you are no longer looking (obviously).

Where you hoping to go?

I just booked a long weekend in Venice but don’t have any idea what to do when I get there.

Bloody loads to see in a weekend in Venice! Go up and down the Grande canal on the vapareto water bus, visit St Marks square and go up the tower, go on a Gondola ride @£80 a couple (probably more nowdays) although you can share with others but not as romantic - you’re only there once so you have to do it - have a drink at Florians in the square and pay through the nose for it - when we were there about 15 years ago, we paid something like a fiver each for a beer & coke and another fiver each for 'musica' - basically an orchestra playing. If you don’t know beforehand it’s a bit of a shock when the bill comes - we saw a Japanese father of a family of 6 turn a table over when he got the bill. There’s plenty of streets to walk around, the bridge of sighs, the Rialto bridge, the glass blowing place, plenty of places to eat, museums, art galleries, the Doge's palace, churches etc etc etc. A weekend won’t be enough. We loved it.

Thanks, we are going Friday to Monday for her 40th. She doesn’t know yet and she would usually do the ‘to do’ list so i’m a bit out of my depth.

Thought a walk around, boat trip, theatre and pub crawl.

Hopefully you’ll come across some building/restoration work and you can let her muck in with them - that’ll be a real treat for your number one labourer!

For a good meal at non tourist rates goto Via Giuseppi Garibaldi. It is the main street where the locals go to eat. it is a filled in canal so wide enough to have outdoor seating that is not cramped. Then walk a bit further to Viale Vittorio Veneto if you want to stroll on grass under trees away from the masses of tourists.

Ibiza Town (not the bay), Barcelona, somewhere with the possibility of a bit of autumn sun, and somewhere nice to eat and drink. I'd go back to Benners, but the missus has other ideas first!
