Hi - I want to install a tapworks softener in my loft to supply softened water to cold water header tanks for basins, cisterns, showers and hot water tank as I have no room in kitchen near the rising main.

Plumbing feed and supply off rising main in loft will be easy since lots of room next to cold tank on wooden platform and power supply easily connected. An overflow could also be installed through soffit or facia same as cold tank overflow.

Do I need a permanent drain for the softener, and if so, could I make a connection into the top of a soil vent pipe in the loft?

Thanks

Fitting a WS in a loft may not be the best idea.

You will be inconvenienced at 2am when it regenerates, or will need to set the regen period when you are not asleep (which may involve using unsoftened water).

Biggest bugbear is lugging all the salt into the loft regularly.

Not for me.
