So the government is running more debt, that's not the point here exactly, there are other threads about this.

What interested me was the labour quote

"Chris Leslie, Labour’s shadow Treasury minister, said: “These figures show that the deficit is rising because the Government’s economic plan is failing.” "

So labours stance has been "to far to fast" on the deficit, now they criticise a rising deficit, something they actually advocate.

Damn, we need a decent opposition to the government, not this silliness of "everything you do is wrong" that labour parrot.

Whether you agree with it or not ; the Labour statement is consistent with Labour's internal logic that the best way to cut the deficit is by encouraging growth rather than shrinking the overall tax take. I don't think it contradicts previous statements on wanting to approach it in their way.

ended up watching prime-ministers question time the other day with my lad he's 16 and has never seen this sort of performance before ,I had to tell him yes this is the government and the opposition and yes these are the people running our country it was embarrassing

They are all the same, career politicians many of who have never had a real job and are only interested in representing themselves. I'm sure there are some good people but it seems that selection is more about your face fitting these days.

yes politics of personality it stinks ,there must be long list of right thinking people who never made it into main stream politics

No your missing my point.

Labours (advertised) plan was to keep spending to encourage growth, this would have increased the deficit. Any deficit reduction plan was based upon future growth caused by this spending.

This is what the Tories have done, but they have advertised it as austerity.

They both have the same plan, they are a fag paper away from each other.

Yet labour attack the failure to reduce the deficit now, something they didn't plan to do.

As an opposition party, they are a dismal failure, they just opposed EVERYTHING the Tories do, doesn't matter if it's sensible or not, if they would do it or not, it's just "you are wrong wrong wrong".

How can they be taken seriously?

perhaps the fag paper is the problem

It's always been the same...when Labour are in, the Tories disagree with everything Labour says and when the Tories are in, Labour disagree with everything The Tories say - even if they actually agree with it. It's all b*ll*cks. Think of all the gobsh*tes over the years, Prescot, Scargill, Blair, Tebbit, Cameron, May, etc etc. The country is still in the soft and smelly but they are all doing very nicely thank you. Politics is just a game and is not really worth discussing. Why the media bothers reporting anything that a politician has said is beyond me.

It's the opposition's job to OPPOSE. That is what they are there for - to test and pick fault with the policies of the party in power.

I agree that it should be but it's all rhetoric. It's a bit like what you do Joe, disagree with everything, pick fault etc. It makes good reading on a forum and livens it up a bit but no one takes it seriously.

all meant in the nicest possible way of course. :)

Dunno about the opposition having to oppose everything the other party do though. Labour oppose things for the simple reason , they didn't think of them first. Look at the New Labour of the 90's. Put blue ties on them instead of red and you have the Tory party in disguise. The only major policy difference between Tories and Labour is, that of state benefits. Tories want to reduce them, whilst Labour want to increase them ( to get more people dependant upon the state) ;) ;) ;)
