1970s detached house with a fireplace on the ground floor party wall.
Would the flue have bridged the cavity in any way?
My gut feeling is not. Rules out thermal bridging, fire risk to next door, ditto escape of flue gases if it were to crack.
Chimney position seems to agree with option 2 but that's not to say they were routinely built with masonry bridging the cavity for increased support.
Anyone know for sure?
