Does it have to be PostFix or can I use Instant Concrete?

My first post (and it's about putting up posts!)! Thanks in advance for your help!

I went to B&Q recently to get some PostFix in order to start replacing my fence. Unfortunately, they were out of stock. As I am a sucker for deals, and there was a load of "Instant Concrete" from damaged bags for a good price and I thought it might do a similar job to PostFix... Has anyone used this for putting up fence posts?

It's by the same company that makes PostFix. Would this not work at all for my application? Any suggestions as to how I would go about using this?

Cheers,

looks like it only contains sharp sand and not ballast. Ballst is the larger stones that help give the concrete some bind and make it stronger. Easiest solution is by a couple of bags of ballast and mix it with the instant ****e.....sorry concrete to get some real concrete

Thanks for your reply Thermo. I've got some old bricks that I can break up in the bottom of the garden. I've heard you can use that as ballast - is that your experience? Anyone else have suggestions for the Instant Concrete?

Cheers!

no you cant. stop being a tight wad and do the job properly. a bag of ballast is about £2

OK... so I need some ballast to put in the mixture... but how much? What proportion? 1 to 4? 1 to 5
