Does it really "need" replacing? - loose plaster!

Hi, any advice would be really appreciated - We have a 1930s semi and in places the render/plaster sounds hollow when tapped. In most rooms so far I have removed (very easily) all render and made a good new job.

One area we've missed is the hallway. I reckon 50% is loose and should by rights be removed. I really don't want to go through all the mess and dust again now that the house is pretty much finished.

If I just patch up and decorate, am I in danger of it all coming off in the near future?
How long can I expect it to hold up or am I just being plain stupid/lazy??!!
Are there any quick fixes?

Thanks!

:D

It's probably been that way for years. Just paint over it and forget about it.

Providing its not cracked & doesn’t move when you push it, it will probably last for many more years so you may as well leave it. Most of the plaster in my 60’s house is similar & although I have taken most of it back to the blocks & started again, some walls are quiet stable so I have left it alone & just re-skimmed.
