My builder has just added the lead flashing from the joining wall of the extension to cover the tiled roof along side. On the plans it stated STEPPED FLASHING but he has done this as a streight diagonal down the room/tile line. Is this acceptable?
There are circumstances where stepped flashing is not practical (plans will generalise) however these are rare. more importantly are there cavity trays fitted?
I understand totally where your coming from.. If it's normal brickwork then there is no reason not to step flash it, in fact standard practice.
If he has cut a straight joint diagonally down the rake of the roof then it's a bit mickey mouse.
Still!! how about cavity trays...
yup, most importantly make sure the cavity tray is there AND that it is in the right place as they expel water soaked into the brickwork over the fashing, the amount of times we find they are in the wrong place is unbelievable.
TBH the builder probably isn't a roofing specialist but does a bit as needed to save getting in a sub-contractor but if the cavity tray is there and in the rght place and the flashing is secure you should be ok (also if you have plain tiles or slates make sure soakers are present).
