I have a Potterton Suprima 40 boiler and a few months ago the heating intermittently stopped working. The controls would be on and the thermostat setting downstairs was green indicating that it had not reached the required temperature. This continued for sometime, with the central heating not starting at times and cutting out before it reached full temperature.

We have since had someone in to look at it on a number of occassions. The first time he replaced the gas valve and thermistor. This did not solve the problem. The next time he replaced the PCB board. This seemed to work but then did not. The 3 part valve next to the water heater was sticking between functions and causing a buzzing sound. He took this off and set the valve to open for both heating and water in order to monitor the problem. Again this seemed to work, but we are now in a situation where the system is responding only to the hot water. When the hot water reaches, the heating cuts out even if it has not reached

Our plumber has suggested replacing the three-part valve head.

The pump seems to run fine when it is on.

Does anyone have any advice

The system is about two and a half years old

could this be a similar problem to Dmoc 10th April? which was fixed by
'changing the synchron motor in your ch zone valve'?

It is posts like above that give good heating engineers a bad name.

Did you check if this muppet was CORGI registered? Then did you also check if he was regfistered to work on boilers? Did he carry out a systematic check on the boiler/ installation? Once the gas valve was replaced, was the installatoin checked for soundness?

Too many questions not enough information. I would suggest you call CORGI and get a name from them. Other way to do this is to visit their website and look for a gas engineer with boiler ticket in your area.
