Talking to a friend here at work had some issues with boiler

Symptoms condensing combi losing pressure overnight to 0bar. Had to reprime each day to 1.5bar

Plumber visited and advised due to large house of 3 floors boiler losing pressure and needed extra expansion vessel to compensate. Cost of about £2000 to install vessel about the size of a football.?

Is that right and is that the going price? I just dont understand how adding an additional expansion vessel compensates the loss of pressure.

Sounds complete tosh to me. When my parents had the same problem with their combi, it was a leaking pressure valve because some internal expansion chamber was buggered. Cost her a couple of hundred quid I believe.

If he is consistently losing pressure after re-pressurising the boiler a number of times then its either a leak somewhere or the pressure relief valve is kicking in and dumping the excess out of the system. I would assume he would of noticed if it was a pressure relief valve though?

Good chance that an additionall expansion vessel is required, a very easy test though , put a freezer bag or ballon over the Pressure release valve outlet and secure it and see if it has water in it when the pressure drops, if it does then it is an expansion problem , I do not like to comment on price as I havent seen the job , but that seems very expensive
