Door latch won’t spring back

Just today my front door latch won’t spring back out after opening.

Meaning, I unlock my door, open it and the handle stays down until you encourage it back. I’ve used WD40, taken the handle off and checked it and moved it back and forward to try to free it but this hasn’t worked.

Any ideas as to what it’ll be on this 10year only door/mechanism please? Photos attached.

Thanks

That sounds like the spring cassette has gone.
Is this a pull up to lock, push down to open type affair? I've just replaced one on a pair of handles.
Underneath that panel in the first picture I would expect you to find something that returns the handle to the horizontal position.
It might be worn or broken, I had a triple spring in a hoppe handle, yours looks different to that though.

Quote from the Mila Datasheet.
'Handlesets are available in two backplate sizes, 220mm and 240mm, to suit most locking systems. A spring module is fitted as standard for use with sprung and unsprung door locks.'

Yeah that’s the one. After a measure it’s the 240mm one I’ve got. Do you think it’s time for a new handle or will the spring cassette be available to replace?

Thanks

I did a quick google search for mila spares/mila spring modules but didn't turn anything up.
It might be worth taking the plate off to see if it's actually broken and do a search for door handle spring/cassette to see if you can find something that looks similar.
Only sure way to sort it out is replace the handle.

Yeah I agree. They look and feel pretty good quality handles so I think it’s best to stick with them. My letter plate and door knocker needs replacing too. Any suggestions for something of solar quality?

The spring cassettes are quite common, I dont know if they fit your handles

For replacement stuff heres a trade supply site, so they sell decent stuff:

I think the mila range of handles are pretty decent, they mostly come as separate backplate and handle which makes them non handed. They now do stainless steel handles which are much better than the satin chrome ones which corrode.

So, I've had a new handle arrive and it's exactly the same apart from the "lug" that goes into the door itself. Shall I just go ahead and make that part on the door wider? Any tips or suggestions? It looks like it's 10mm according to the diagram that the manufacturer provides. See attached as it'll hopefully make sense on there.
