Why does it have to be exactly 143mm? 141/145 'seems as close as' to me

edit: ive just read your post in window/doors an understand a little clearer. Can you not just buy some 6x1pse(150mmx25mm dressed timber) and make a lining this way. This timber should be about 145ishmm

ah thanks. i thought i posted it but when i checked this section i could not see it. i posted in the wrong section  if i have to make one i will, but i was not sure how accurate it had to be as i will be getting a tradesman to fit the actual door. thanks

ok can someone tell me what the internal width of the door lining needs to be? Also what height should i be looking at from ffl to the internal top when i fit it? thanks in advance.

As Jaffa has suggested you would better of buying 6x1 pse "planed square edge. Most door lining material is 28mm thick and most door heights internally are 1981mm therefore you will need two legs of 6x1 at 2100mm and 1 leg at 900mm for the top. How wide is your door, is 2 foot, 2 foot three inches or 2 foot 10 inches. I think your best bet is to get the door lining material and get your chippy to put it the lining together and in himself.

otherwise if you want to do it yourself then the internal door lining height should be the height of the door 1981mm allowance for carpet etc 20mm plus 2mm totalling 2003mm.

ok i have done it now. As the rest of the doors will be replaced in the house i did it the same size so looks like they will have to plain a couple of mm of each side. The only problem i may have is the timber i used was only 18mm wide. Its well fixed, 6 double fixings down each side all packed out. and 2 at the top. i measured an old linign and that was 20mm. Could this cause me any problems?

No problems as such.......6 double fixings is probably overkill,i always go with 4 double fixings.I never feel the need to fix the head of the frame.A couple of mm is not going to make much difference(if any).........as stated in earlier replies,if you're getting someone in to hang the doors, then let them fit the linings also
