I have lots of new door linings I need to order, some are very large depth sizes (300mm+).
Spoke to a few suppliers. Some are quoting £120 for a single door lining because of the size (soft wood) and other £200+ for Tulip or other makes. They are suggesting not to go for pine because of knots etc.

Sounds a bit expensive on the pricing. What types of woods are there? Russian Red (pine), tulip, MDF, hardwood etc. If I plan to paint it white, do I need to worry about this?

You could line with 25mm mdf , or depending on width use 18mm mdf to line and add standard lined inside it.

Agreed. MDF (preferably MR-MDF) paints out far better than any softwood and many hardwoods and is cheaper/straighter, too
