Door lock not working

When closing the door to my machine (Hoover 1300 Special Edition), the does not close correctly and the "Door Locked" light doesn't come on. It eventually does if I push the door in different directions. Anyone know what may cause this?

There's an electrical interlock behind the door latch. It sounds as though something isn't aligned properly. A real pain to get at though.

brouse can i suggest before you do anything else that you check any nuts bolts or screws on the hinge or round the door catch that you can see from the outside are tight
if the screws holding any part of the catch mechanism is loose it wont help
