My sister has an arrangement similar to that below but a bit wider, it's over 30 years old and ready for replacement but she would like something that doesn't bounce, shake, rattle and bang when she shuts the door.

Will a replacement be more solid than what she has now - I'm not sure whether it's the quality of the old door and frame, loose/insufficient fixings/dissolved foam and silicone etc which would all be resolved by a new, well installed good quality uPVC/composite unit or whether she should be considering aluminium or a reinforced frame (or something like bay poles that go in bay windows). She's pretty tight but will spend money when she has to!

I'm unimpressed by plastic doors.

A wooden door and frame typically lasts more than a hundred years. But unless it is protected by an open porch will need regular painting.

Composite doors are quite sturdy.

I fitted a Solidor with top and sidelights and that’s pretty solid. They join them with aluminium couplers so they stay strong.

I got it from Keyframe in Bolton.

We got an aluminium door from them. Very sturdy, insulated... RK Door Systems Ltd

That door and sidelights will be a bit springy when you shut the door.

I'm mean it's bendy plastic....and it will bend
