Hi, we have a wired doorbell, and have found, every time it rains heavy, it stops working.

Oddly, when I look at the doorbell itself, it's not really wet, as it is fairly covered from the roof and part of the side of the porch.

I am not sure where else water might be getting in to stop it working though. I guess it must be getting into it.

Are wired doorbells not waterproof as such, could it cause any issues unless fixed?

I guess we could get it replaced, but could it still carry on, depending on where the water is getting in?

Thanks
James

The standard ding dong chime has a solenoid and spring, pressing the door bell fires the striker across, and momentum helps it complete the trip hitting bell one, and then the spring returns it again momentum helps it finish the trip to hit bell two. So if part energised it stops the momentum completing the trip to strike the bell.

Most other types the bell would continue to ring if part energised.

So type of bell matters. I know my door push is not rated for outside use, 1727717520980.png it was never bought as a door bell, it was got to switch lights on/off from in bed, but we used voice commands, so found another use for it. Now been outside a year with no problem, but last house the proper door bell push, had to be replaced many times. Just this house door is in sheltered position.
