internal doors are usually a timber frame with a "decorative panel" on either side of the frame, the space inbetween is filled with cardboard in a lattice shape.

I should hope front doors are solid timber

inside doors are more cosmetic and exterior doors are structural

you may even get mortice and tennons on exterior doors ;)

Also exterior doors are thicker (1 5/8") and interior doors (1 3/8")

There are some front doors can be thicker than 1 5/8" for extra security

ah i hadnt noticed but yes seems front doors are thicker. The interior one i was looking at were solid pine, no tthe carboard jobies. I was wondering if there was some fire regualtion reason for the thickness etc. Plenty of houses here have glazed front doors, security isnt much of a consideration.

It's to do with the mortice lock thickness to cope with the security for the front doors.

Nowadays, Exterior doors also have to meet the new building regs (Part L). Whereas Internal doors can still be made as shody as you like from any cheap tat.
