Hello,

We have 2 doorways in our lounge, 1 of these goes into the kitchen but we would like to block this doorway up and make a new doorway in the hallway that will lead into the kitchen. We also have a utility room that has been blcoked in. The door and frame are still there on the utility side but on the kitchen side someone has put in a stud wall and kitchen units where the doorway would be.

How difficult would it be for us to re-open the utility doorway, block off the other doorway and put in a doorway (no door or frame, just an opening)into the kitchen? The walls in the house are not brick walls they are just plywood and plasterboard.

Thanks very much

not difficult at all, building wise.

there may be electrics to deal with, i.e. new switch socket positions, or the removal or addition of a plug socket or two.

radiators?

you may have to fix a new casing to the existing-but covered over doorway.

the rest of the work is fairly simple and can be done with masonry or stud.

the clever part will be plastering up and marrying new to old. the skill will be in making the joins invisible. ;)
