Situation:

Have chimney-breast (just the face, not the sides) that has previously been taken back to brick and the brickwork varnished. I would like to give the chimney-breast a less dated look and make it more universally acceptable in order to help sell the property.

Advice re. following question appreciated :)

If I apply a diluted coat of PVA first, will I be able to successfully apply a dot & dab plasterboard finish to the varnished brickwork - or is the plaster not likely to adhere successfully to the surface as described ?

Many thanks in advance

why not try a test area first. apply a blob of bonding compound to a pva'd area and an untreated area and see how easy it would be to remove.

if both blobs come free with little or no protest then i guess you'll just have to batten and board.

Cheers noseall :)

I guess the "patch testing" option, is the sensible route.

Many thanks to yourself and all the others that contribute their time & expertise on this site - much appreciated
