I have just replaced two failed double glazed units in hardwood frames. I have noticed the metal seal inside the glass is silver as opposed to brown in the old ones. Can anyone please tell me if this just a cosmetic difference or are these units not for fitting in hardwood frames? I did state they were for hardwood when I ordered them.

It's just cosmetic. They always ask which you want and then give you silver.
Make sure you don't use putty though as that rots the seals.

joe means don't use linseed oil putty, though there are non linseed glazing compounds that are suitable, that is if you wish to have a pointed finish as opposed to glazing beads.

Have fitted them using butyl glazing compound. Got brown seals from the same place last year and they do look better in a hardwood frame. Was a bit worried that silver seals were for upvc frames. Thanks for putting my mind at ease.
