double glazed units

I have previously come acroos an online carpentry company that will supply sashes for existing sliding sahwindow boxes without modification. They recon d/g can be obtained to fit the width ofstandars sash windows. Is this possible or is it a false clain that double glased units can be reto fitted to original sash windows.

yes you can get them or you could at a price
they are stepped units so ask them for a link to the units
even better ask them to quote with units fitted and see what they say
i think your talking about £60 per small unit and perhaps £90 for larger
so a standard 4 pane would be perhaps £360 unfitted

Any glass unit manufacturer will make you a stepped unit if you ask, the problem is they'll look cak on the inside, even if you manage to cover the black hotmelt you'll still see an un-sightly spacer bar.

Also one thing to bear in mind, with the added weight of ao DG unit as opposed to original 3mm or even updated 4mm will the sash be too heavy for the counter weights, window may not stay open???

I haven't heard of stepped units. There was a firm offering to make replacemant sash units that would fit d/g units into existing/original sash boxes. They didn't mention stepped units but a new advanced sealed unit. For the love of G I can't remember their name or find a link.
