Hi,
I've moved all the walls in my flat (have Building Control signing off removal of the load bearing wall) and am coming to board the new stuff. The old walls all had two layers of 12.5mm plasterboard on them. Is that necessary for an internal wall? Is there a problem with only one layer - I will be paying a pro to skim it afterwards. Are there any issues with tiling on to one layer?
Also, am fitting a door in one new wall and was going to use one of the pre-machined door frame packs but they seem to come in 106mm or 131mm depths. My 4" x 2" studwork is about 95mm deep, so with single 12.5mm plasterboard on either side the 106mm would definitely be too shallow, but the 131mm would stick out about 6mm on either side, which seems a bit deep for a skim. What do you think? I could use the 106mm and then just put a separate board around it to a suitable size, but that sort of spoils the idea of a pre-made door frame...
Thanks.
