Hi everyone,

Well...I'm now 5 years into landscaping the garden and currently making a cedar bench. I'm looking to screw the cedar edge panels together with a 9mm countersink (as shown in the image). Then I'm planning to glue and dowel to cover up the screws and provide a flush look to the face. I'm struggling to find some cedar dowels so looking for other ideas. Would Oak dowels be suitable? or something else?

Many thanks,

Ed

Oak makes great dowel - nice and dense and swells when knocked in. Maple is another.
Consider which glue you will use, and the holes need to be counterbored rather than countersunk - if you have the timber depth.

Thanks guys. In the end I have found a plug cutter and bore set from screwfix. Looks like it will do the job. I will report back. I can then cut the dowels from the cedar I'm using
