Note: This is an enquiry - I am not trying to DIY anything.
We have a small commercial three-phase supply and the business is now more or less inactive. In Nov-24, our supplier, Eon Next, changed the daily standing prices on out half-hourly account from around £2 per day to £9.50 per day. As we use almost no power and the half-hourly metering was a legacy from when our business was still quite active, this hike in standing charge is significant to us and represents about 80% of the overall power bill.
The solution offered by the supplier is to come off of half-hourly metering and move to a standard metering. Over a series of phone calles with UK Power Networks and the supplier, I am now stuck as neither will take the first step in transfering the meter. here is where I am:
Supplier says: They will change the meter (for £157) and this will reduce my standing charge to around 50p per day, but they can only do this once UK Power Networks have removed the CT "current transformer" from the meter and replaced it with a WC "whole current" somethingorother. They say, I should get a quote for this as UK PN can charge a lot and it can take a while.
UKPN connection team (and other departments I came accros on this journey so far) says: we cannot touch anything to do with meters or anything that comes after the main isolator to the property.
Anyone know who is correct and whether the CT to WC is a thing. If the supplier is going to change the whole meter to standard from half-hourly, does it matter whether there is a CT or a WC in the one I have got now?
Thanks for any support on this. All the best.
