One of my downlighters in the kitchen doesn't work. Changed bulb, but still refuses to work. I suspect the transformer has blown. Is there anyway i can check this out ? Also, in bathroom, a downlighter comes on intermittantly and if it does, it fades out. Any ideas please ?

You'll need test equipment to test this, check what voltage is coming out of the load side of your transformer , same with your bathroom light to see if its a transformer problem or a connection problem

If your bathroom tranny is covered with, lying on, or adjacent to loft insulation, it may be cycling.
It is also possible that it is a failed / failing lampholder.
