Downstairs Toilet Has Illegal Switch.

Have just had the downstairs toilet re-fitted. The plumber says our light switch is illegal because it's inside the bathroom - it's also pretty close to the new basin. There's also a pull cord switch as well from the ceiling.

What's the best way of killing the switch? I'm guessing that the pull cord is on the same circuit as the switch? Moving the switch outside the toilet isn't really an option for me.

So it's definitely only a bath that matters? The sink is 75cm from the light switch.

Yes, sinks don't count. Tell plumber to stick to plumbing.

Yes and showers, its more to do with people with there whole body wet rather than just there hands.

In most commercial premises its quite common to see an exposed switch for a handryer often less than 750mm from a sink, most people have enough sense to not touch electrical switches with wet hands

in terms of the regulation, a "bathroom" is a room that contains a fixed bath or shower.

A WC or a sink is not a bath or a shower, so bathroom regulations do not apply.

A tin bath in front of the fire is not a fixed bath, so, again, not a "bathroom"
